Welcome, and thank you for joining our Journey for Ernie

The idea behind the journey

The principle behind the journey is to raise funds for the Lullaby Trust who not only fund research projects into the causes of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) but also council bereaved parents. The journey which is entirely privately funded so that every single penny of donations and sponsorships go directly through Just Giving to The Lullaby Trust, making sure that they receive 100% of all contributions.

The idea of the journey developed from the principle of a business class ticket to Sydney was around £3500, so could the journey going by surface be done for the same price or less. (This was partly inspired by BBC series Race Across the World.) Approximately £50 per day all in, including all travel, accommodation, subsistence, etc. The only stipulation is that the trip has to use publicly available transport that anyone could procure being in situ at any given time. The project grew, approximate mileages were worked out and the figure established was to be less than £0.21p per mile – so there appeared the challenge! The machinery started working around April just after our reason for backing the Lullaby Trust, and over many meetings, research, potential obstacles later, the project evolved. The target is to raise £12000, the figure only significant by being twelve months since the family suffered our terrible loss.

The approximate route to date is subject to visas being granted and is always likely to change depending on local or regional timetable circumstances. The potential mileage is between 15000 and 17000 miles. The aim is to be back in the UK for the one year anniversary when we lost little Ernie, aged just five months old on the 5th March 2019.
